HVDC transmission system is used to transmit bulk power over a long distance without much loss of power and with great efficiency. There are three types of dc links for HVDC transmission system.

Motor is basically that device which convert electrical power into mechanical power .There are five types of motor first, separately excited motor .second self excited motor which is further subdivided into two types series excited motor and shunt excited motor third one is compound excited motor it is sub divided into long shunt compound excited motor and short shunt compound excited motor.

Hydro Power Plant uses kinetic energy of water to generate electricity, it is generally used as peak load power plant and its working time is generally of 4 to 8 hrs. These power plants are of reversible type means they work as generator when supplying the load and as motor during the night time duration or off peak hours.

Link this lecture explain in detail the types of d. c. links which are mono polar, bipolar and homo polar .These types of dc links help to transmit bulk amount of electric power through the HVDC Transmission line.

Power Modulator are those devices which are used to convert the given electrical power into the desired power for e.g. the supplied power is of ac form than and required is dc than we will employ rectifier power modulator for converting ac power into dc , and if the given form is dc and required is ac than we will employ a inverter power modulator.

Transformers are static devices who transfer electric power from one circuit to another with changed voltage levels but keeping the system frequency constant. They are of two types step up and step down. Transformer has two windings one is primary and other is secondary winding and these are both placed in the transformer tank.
