Pinus is an evergreen tree. The saprophytic plant body is differentiated into roots , stem and leaves. The roots are covered by a fungal hyphae called mycorrhizae. The branches on the stem are monopodial and are of two types ( a) Branches of unlimited growth or long shoots. ( b) Branches of limited growth or dwarf shoots. Leaves are of two types ( a) Scale leaves ( b) Foliage leaves. The leaves found on the dwarf shoots acre called as cataphylls. Sexual reproduction occurs by means of microspores and megaspores which give rise to male and female gametophytes respectively. Fertilization occurs by the fusion of a male gamete with a female gamete resulting in the formation of Zygote.
